New Bargain Purchases!

Oh I do love a bargain, especially when it involves makeup and today I was very impressed with Superdrug’s offerings! First we have Rimmel Provocalips 16H Kiss Proof Lip Colour (why such a long name?!) in 730 Make Your Move . I can definitely vouch for the fact that this does definitely last 16 hours, at least people, at least! The reason I’m so certain of this is that I swatched it on my hand couple of days ago along with several other lipsticks of a similar shade and hours after the other swatches had worn away and after several hand washes and even a shower (!!) the Provocalips swatch was still there!! Say whaaat?!! In fact it was still faintly on my hand the next day so I would say it lasted about 24 hours rather than 16. Seriously impressive.

The formula is matte but it also comes with a glossy balm to put on top (which obviously doesn’t last so long given its balmy texture), and to be honest as I like the matte look I don’t think it’s a necessity but its a nice addition to have. I’ll definitely be purchasing some more shades of this product for my kit as I think they’ll be perfect for brides given their incredible lasting power!

My next purchase was the Revlon Colourburst Lacquer Balm in Whimsical. I’ve been a huge fan of the Colourburst Matte Balm Stains for a long time so when I saw this new addition – their glossy counterpart – I just had to try it! The colour is a lovely berry pink with subtle glitter, perfect for this time of year. I don’t expect this to be as long lasting as the Matte Balm Stains (the clue’s in the name!) due to their more glossy nature but I will keep you informed!

Finally, we have the Gosh Shadow Collection – 9 Shades To Enjoy In New York. Firstly can we just talk about the packaging?! It’s so sleek – a matte black with glossy black lettering on the front, a nice big mirror inside and very sturdy feeling. It reminds me a lot of the Nars eyeshadow palettes. Well done, Gosh, well done! The shadows are a nice range of purples, browns and beiges, all satiny in texture. From swatching them on my hand I can tell you that they feel lovely and soft in texture and seem as though they will be highly pigmented. I’ll keep you updated!

I had been rather dismissive of the budget brands of late in favour of the more high end ones but I stand corrected! The less expensive brands certainly do have a lot to offer so I’ll be spending a little more time perusing the aisles of Boots and Superdrug from now on!

Just Another Manic(ure) Monday: Tropical Temptation

Another pretty summer shade for you today – Revlon’s Tropical Temptation. This is my go-to holiday toe nail colour but I also think it looks really chic on the fingers! It’s a gorgeous coral (more at the pink end of the spectrum than the orange) and looks perfect with a tan.

The formula is a lovely thick cream and this is almost opaque in one coat (but I think it needs two to be on the safe side). The finish is lovely and glossy but I always complete the manicure with a final layer of my favourite Eye Candy gel-look top coat to achieve a super shiny look.

Unfortunately I can’t seem to find this shade online so I think it may have been discontinued, sob sob. However, some similar shades are Essie’s Cute As A Button and Barry M’s Gelly Hi-Shine in Grapefruit.

What’s on your nails at the moment?

Revlon Colourburst Matte Balm Stains

20140626-132009-48009197.jpg

I just made a quick dash to Superdrug on my lunch break for a little mid day pick me up and picked up these two little beauties in Elusive, a muted, neutral rose pink and Audacious, an extremely bright fluorescent orange. I thought Elusive would be a good everyday colour and definitely work appropriate whereas Audacious looked like the perfect holiday/festival/summer night out colour.

So far, I’m very happy with my purchases. As soon as I got back to the office I tried them on. They both glide onto the lips nicely and feel moisturising and ‘balm-like’ (as the name suggests). They haven’t seemed to sink into the lines in my lips like many matte lip products do and they don’t feel drying at all. Also, I had a cup of tea and Audacious stayed nicely in-tact. Obviously the top layer of ‘balminess’ came off but it left behind a nice stain.

You can pick these up from Superdrug for £7.99 each (and at the moment they’re on a ‘buy one get 2nd half price’ deal which is nice.

Have you tried any of these? Which are your favourite shades?
